Mission History![]() The Fundamental Baptist Mission of Trinidad and Tobago was founded in 1912 by Rev. James Vincent Quamina of Plymouth, Tobago; its primary goal being to serve the physical and spiritual needs of the people of Trinidad and Tobago by communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ through churches and ministries. Seeking help for his work, Rev. Quamina came to New York in 1921 and from this first visit, the U. S. Board of FBMTT was established. Using funds gathered and sent from the U. S., the first FBMTT Mission church was built in 1924 in Port of Spain, Trinidad: Bethel Fundamental Baptist Church. Since that time, the Mission has established several more churches. A complete list of FBMTT churches can be found here. The Mission also hosts a primary school, a seminary, and several other various ministries throughout both islands. Quamina served as the first Director of FBMTT for 33 years and was succeeded by his sons; Samuel Alvan Quamina from 1945-1950 and Paul Clement Quamina from 1950-1990. Dominic Maitland, pastor of Calvary Fundamental Baptist Church in Point Fortin, Trinidad, served as Director from 1990-2015, after which Rev. George Mohammed took over as the current Field Director. Mission StructureFBMTT is an international association between three groups: the T&T Board, the U. S. Board, and the Canada Board. Together, these groups maintain a Joint Venture Agreement. Each is an independent organization but all work together, one in Christ, for the evangelistization of Trinidad & Tobago as we follow the Great Commission, which was given to us by our Lord, Jesus Christ. We believe that God has given us a unique opportunity through this arrangement to fulfill Christ's command in Trinidad & Tobago and reach its people of His gospel. Boards are made up of Baptist pastors and laymen who volunteer their time. Missionaries, the Field Director, or the General Director do not receive a salary and trust God to provide for them through financial and prayer support from churches and individuals.
